About Me

I am working towards accreditation with the UK Council for Psychotherapy.

Long hours on the ocean as a merchant seaman in my first profession, gave me time to reflect on what causes pain in our human lives. I looked into what healing methods and approaches to suffering were really effective and accessible. A nuanced approach informed by kindness, has helped me on my own healing journey. That journey has included working for various organisations, directly supporting people's recovery from mental health challenges, addiction, anxiety and depression.

To deepen my understanding and skills, I trained at the Karuna institute in Devon. This is a pioneering training centre in mindfulness based psychotherapy and I gained my MA in psychotherapy after three years of study. I now have my own therapy practice.

Although no longer working on the sea, I still love it as a great healer and inspiration for me. I'm currently enjoying finally learning to dance in a weekly class. I'm excited by working now online with clients in remote places and with people unlikely to have access to this therapeutic approach where they live. I also really enjoy working face to face with people in my peaceful practise room in Bristol.

What is CPP ?

Core Process Psychotherapy is a profound but simple approach to therapeutic exploring. It is recognised as a psycho spiritual approach, in that it combines straightforward mindfulness practises found in Buddhist teachings with the latest research and insights revealed by developmental psychology.

This works best when a trust has arisen between therapist and client, and this takes some time to establish.

When we are listened to mindfully, our experience of ourselves shifts and deepens. We seem to ‘get’ ourselves through being ‘got’ by a trusted other, who will likely not offer advice or judge us, but whose trained presence facilitates us exploring our relationship with ourselves and our present life and challenges.
